I recently attended EnerCom Denver, one of the largest and longest running annual energy investment conferences. It’s been running for 34 years, and I’ve attended for 18 years.
Attendance was still far below where it was roughly 15 years ago, reflecting fund outflows and reduced investor interest in the energy sector. But it was meaningfully higher than last year, a sign that sentiment is improving.
I left Enercom with three main takeaways:
One of my favorite oil producers presented particularly well and looks even more compelling following a recent acquisition.
Producers are increasingly adopting directional-drilling technology, using it to improve productivity from lower quality reservoirs.
Operators are increasing their budgets, with oil drilling activity likely to continue to rise from here.
